Inside/Outside

‘This book is an antidote to a potential amnesia. I often think about the possibility that one day I might lose my memory. At that moment I open the wallet where I keep papers, pictures, cards, assorted messages; I rummage through my notebooks, my books, my photograph albums. I find the drawing of a house, the inner side (inside) and the outer side (outside). In the logbook I keep, the ruins of a house appear between the lines: “a house is the ruins of a house” (Manuel António Pina). And I think there will always be a point of return in the stories I keep inventing for them.’

INSIDE/OUTSIDE is a publication of photographs and text by Diogo Martins, made as part of the project Filosofia da paisagem (Philosophy of landscape).
