DOIS DIAS PARA ALÉM DO TEMPO (Two days beyond time) is a performance at the crossroads of theatre, music and literature, freely exploring the epic world of James Joyce’s Ulysses.
It might be described as a contemporary chamber opera, with artistic direction by Óscar Silva and music by Ricardo Jacinto, performed by Carla Galvão, Gio Lourenço and Mariana Dionísio, based on texts by Miguel Castro Caldas and Ricardo B. Marques. The music is played live by Ricardo Jacinto (cello and electronics), Angélica Salvi (harp and electronics) and Pedro Oliveira (percussion and electronics).
The piece ventures a reflection on the struggles and triumphs of everyday life, setting the idea of the banal and the petty in counterpoint with the great existential questions, individual and collective.
The score grows out of the relationship between spatiality and the vibration of sound in bodies and objects, in its most empirical dimension, where emotions and their ephemerality settle. Alongside it, the text explores language as sonic matter, experimenting with the dynamics of sense and meaning in words and phrases.
