Technician 1: What’s this thing we’re doing here got to do with the fire and the couple’s plot?
Technician 2: This looks more like a tech rider being rigged.
Put succinctly, that’s it.
TEKNÉ is a theatre piece in which a company carries out the technical fit-up of a show called O Bananal (The banana plantation). What the piece is searching for lies in its fit-up and technical preparation. Taking the imaginative world of Thomas Bernhard’s Der Theatermacher (The theatre-maker) as its starting point, the piece works as an apparatus that sets out to strip the experience of making theatre to the bone, one in which the preparation of the stage elements – light, objects, text, sound, costumes, acting, direction – openly becomes the subject of dialogue between the theatre-makers.
