to seek the place that slips away, to accustom myself to the world’s continual flight,
to allow within me the site where the word went out,
to rest there as one who finds serenity in desolation,
to lose, to lose more and more as far as the unsayable,
not to speak, not to write, so as at last to begin again:
the road is the waiting for a name.
from O Choro é Um Lugar Incerto, by Rui Nunes
LUZ NEGRA is a performance by Ana Gil and Nuno Leão, created as part of the multidisciplinary project Rastro, Margem, Clarão, which brought together performing artists, visual artists and essayists around the writing of Rui Nunes.
In Rui Nunes’s books, writing is already a performative gesture: pages made of voids, white spaces, erasures and truncated sentences, which ask not so much for a reading as for a vision, one closer to breath, to gesture and to the body.
This is LUZ NEGRA’s point of departure: a performance in which the body seeks to build itself as a place, and the space itself becomes a body under construction. A place where one hesitates between perfection and disaster.
