DA MINHA ALDEIA VEJO QUANTO DA TERRA SE PODE VER NO UNIVERSO is a multidisciplinary performance that takes place between a drone’s-eye view and an embroiderer’s hands. Over the course of an artist residency in each place, the artists live through a series of experiences with the places and the people who inhabit them, and from these they try to create a performative work that shares those same experiences.
How do we tell someone what we lived through in all the days we spent in a place? How do we make those events something that can be shared and passed on, through a performative apparatus made of words, voices, sounds, images, objects, gestures? How can a personal experience become common material for others who were not there? How does this sharing of the sensible come about?
Over a number of meetings with the people of each place, this was the experience we offered them: to recount personal and collective memories, starting from objects, images, stories, moments, letters, postcards. Listening to people share their stories, we always had a strong sense of presence; whenever someone told us something, it was as if the very act of telling put us there, where what was being told was taking place. Whether we were in the village or somewhere else, whether it was 2018 or any other year, whether it was today or some years ago, the performative act of telling and sharing something that was a memory always said: it is here and now, once again.
