Calipso ou a experiência do possível

As part of its Ulysses project, Terceira Pessoa challenged Bernardo Chatillon to work on chapter 4 of James Joyce’s Ulysses. Out of this came Calipso ou a experiência do possível (Calypso, or the experience of the possible), which premiered in July 2024.

This new version is a kind of prequel: a hybrid of theatre and performance that goes back to the origins of the characters and events of the original piece. Inspired by Joyce’s metempsychosis — the idea that one and the same soul can inhabit successive bodies — it invites the audience into a space where dream and nightmare blur into one another.

Like a living body, the piece changes shape with every performance. To know what it is, you have to let it happen.
