Using an interdisciplinary approach, Terceira Pessoa brings together professionals working in a range of artistic languages.
Catering to audiences of all ages and sociocultural backgrounds, Terceira Pessoa brings communities closer to the territory of both their local area and the country as a whole, promoting cultural interchange between local heritage and contemporary modes of expression.
Our activities thus focus on three main areas:
– We create and produce artistic works under the Terceira Pessoa name, and promote the regions we work in as spaces for artistic production and community work at national and international levels;
– We bring the public closer to contemporary artistic languages, through participatory methodologies and ongoing collaboration;
– We programme seasons of multidisciplinary artistic practice that encourage the circulation of contemporary artists and provide the local population with access to the contemporary and experimental work that arises.
In 2012, we developed the project KURT COBAIN, which included a group of young people aged 13 to 18 years old. In 2013, we worked with a group of 70 people of all ages to develop and perform the show–manifesto HEY YOU. In 2014, for the project REGISTRATION, we created a performance in three parts based on the book “Portugal, Today: The Fear Of Existing” by José Gil. In the same year, we premiered the work THINKING HANDS OR HANDBOOK OF THOUGHT. In 2015, we created the piece FIRST CHILDHOOD: FABLES, which was shown as part of Teatro Nacional D. Maria II’s ‘Newborns’ season. In the same year, we developed the multidisciplinary project PHILOSOPHY OF LANDSCAPE. In 2016, we premiered the piece THE OLD IMAGE OF BEING LOVED in London, going on to perform it in various theatres and festivals nationally and internationally. In 2017, we premiered the piece HERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER PLACE, followed in 2018 by the international collaboration KIF-KIF (co-produced with Teatromosca and Théatre de La Tête Noire).
In addition to our artistic productions, Terceira Pessoa has developed a number of community projects, including PUBLIC SERVICE, a season of discussions revolving around contemporary art, and THERE’S A PARTY IN THE COUNTRYSIDE / ARTISTIC VILLAGES, a project that encouraged local development through artistic practice. More recently, we developed the projects COMMON SENSE – A VAGUE REMEMBRANCE OF A SHOW and FROM MY VILLAGE I CAN SEE AS MUCH OF THE EARTH AS CAN BE SEEN IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE (2018). In 2019, we developed the multidisciplinary artistic walking route A LINE IS A DOT THAT GOES FOR A WALK.
We have also worked on many interdisciplinary projects, increasingly bringing together people from a various artistic languages and other areas of knowledge, such as philosophy and science.
