A PLACE WITHOUT COORDINATES is a performance by Maria Fonseca and Miguel Moreira, developed in the context of “Trace, Margin, Flash”, a multidisciplinary project concerning the universe found in the writings of Rui Nunes, involving creators from the areas of performing arts, visual arts and education.

/SINOPSYS

Prostrate: a man, a woman, two naked bodies, anonymous. The eyes of the onlooker widen, hesitate, opt to rest on one, knowing that this means neglecting the other. In the next moment, the onlooker doubts their choice; adjusting, therefore, the position of their eyes. They wait, vacillate: from the start their gaze is a combination of senses. They see also the music of Cage, they see the smell of the water-soaked bodies. And, finally, they see what they hoped for: two figures that burst simultaneously from the same space and from different spaces. Figures that, though wordless, are like the words of Rui Nunes: fighting, each one, with its own body. At times they are commas, or the unravelling of syntax. They seek each other in a movement that expresses desire and fear. They turn their backs, merge with each other, camouflage themselves behind black hair. They seduce. They look for themselves in watery reflections, in a head, in a vase, in the drawing that will be made. And finally, a moment of recognition. At last, a retreat: slowly receding from our gaze, they leave us alone with the emptiness of our senses.
