BLACK LIGHT is a performance by Ana Gil and Nuno Leão, developed in the context of “Trace, Margin, Flash”, a multidisciplinary project concerning the universe found in the writings of Rui Nunes, involving creators from the areas of performing arts, visual arts and education.
to search for the place that keeps hiding, to accustom myself to the world’s ceaseless flight, to allow in myself the place where there are no words, to relax there as someone finding serenity in displacement, to lose, to lose more and more until reaching the inexpressible, to not speak, to not write, in order to finally start again: the wait for a name is an open highway
(Rui Nunes, in O Choro é um Lugar Incerto)
Black Light is a performance by Ana Gil and Nuno Leão, developed in the context of “Trace, Margin, Flash”, a multidisciplinary project concerning the universe found in the writings of Rui Nunes, involving creators from the areas of performing arts, visual arts and education.
Nunes’ work is full of elements that take writing as a performative act: the pages are filled with spaces, blanks, highlights in bold, crossings-out, phrases cut short. In this way, his writing seems to invite less of a ‘reading’ and more of a ‘gaze’, leading us to what is non-verbal in the modes of coexistence between different subjects (that which Jacques Rancière calls “the distribution of the sensible”), with its semiotic and communicative surplus, such as occurs in our gestures, our breathing, and in the movements of our body. Thus, taken as a whole, it is a record dedicated to the performativity, violence and glow of a body in actu (a body that becomes truly itself as long as the performance continues).
Trace, Margin, Flash. 3 performances, 3 photographic essays and 3 written essays will be developed, taking as a starting point the universe found in the writings of Rui Nunes.
