/SINOPSYS

EXPRESS YOURSELF is an arts and education project aimed at young people from 13 to 16 years old in the Castelo Branco region. Promoted by Terceira Pessoa, the project is part of the Academias Gulbenkian do Conhecimento [Gulbenkian Knowledge Academies] programme and seeks to develop the following social and emotional skills: creativity, critical thinking and communication.

“Express Yourself” is an experimental methodology that draws on teaching methods encompassing: performances; narratives; activities; discovery; creation; making; empowering; and collective work. Drawing on artistic techniques/strategies and tools, the methodology is organised in a manner that directly enhances these skills.

Young people thus work directly with artists and specialists in art-based education, following a process that culminates in the creation of an artistic object to be shared with the public. As it is being developed, the experimental process of “Show Yourself” will be tracked and evaluated for its real-life impact on the social and emotional skills of the young people taking part.

This project from Terceira Pessoa is part of the Rede Nacional de Academias Gulbenkian do Conhecimento [National Network of Gulbenkian Knowledge Academies] of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
